Day 1- A number of topics and ideas were discussed and modified to arrive at a general solution of the given project.
Day 2- The general solution was critiqued to reach our final solution that we thought would best improve the use of the current entry to the A+A Building.
Day 3- The final details were added to the project along with the creation and completion of the presentation.
To enhance the preexisting entrance into the Art and Architecture Building, the performance of the design focuses specifically on improving circulation and shelter, maintaining sight lines to main campus, and transitioning from a passageway to a multifunction entryway also used as a meeting space.
The current entrance into the building is merely used as a transition space between campus and the interior of the building. To construct a place of passage and destination, two sculptural pieces were designed to create two areas on the staircase: a direct and unobstructed access way into the building and a classroom space on the opposing side. The sculptural pieces serve as pin-up panels in order to conduct critiques on the classroom side of the staircase. The other side of the panels, facing the main steps, serves as a place to post announcements and events so students can see them as they enter the building. Shelter is created by the steel wings that guide circulation into the building.
